Located within the vibrant National Nordic Museum in Seattle, the Cafe at National Nordic Museum serves as both a culinary haven and a cultural experience. This delightful café brings a taste of Nordic cuisine to life, offering a menu that showcases fresh, locally-sourced ingredients infused with traditional flavors. Whether you’re looking to refuel after exploring the museum or simply seeking a cozy spot to unwind, this café embraces you with warmth and charm.

Indulge in their Quinoa Salad, featuring smoked tarragon chicken, herbed goat cheese, and a zesty beet-sherry vinaigrette. It's a colorful testament to robust flavors harmonizing beautifully, priced at just US$9.00. For seafood lovers, the Shrimp Ludvig Salad is an enticing choice, brimming with poached shrimp, hard-boiled egg, and refreshing cucumber drizzled with a lemon-dill dressing, all for US$10.00.

Don't forget to enhance your meal with tempting extras like Gluten-Free Crackers for US$1.50 or the piquant Pickled Herring for US$2.00. And if you have a sweet tooth, the desserts are not to be missed—try the moist Yogurt Blueberry Cake or the traditional Swedish Cheesecake, both priced at US$4.00.

But what makes this café truly special is the inviting atmosphere and commitment to quality service. As Andrew Lee shares, “the remodel of the Nordic Museum places importance on including a quality café,” adding to a culturally rich experience. Grace agrees—the café stands out as a “unique and delicious” spot, highlighting the rich tapestry of Nordic food traditions. Customers rave about the creamy Icelandic yogurt, and many find joy in the playful twists, such as the grilled cheese with lingonberry sauce that eden enjoyed.

Moreover, the café doubles as a serene workspace. Its relaxed atmosphere, described by Mari Johnson as a “lovely spot to have a coffee/read or work,” invites you to linger a little longer with your book or laptop. On a chilly morning, I can imagine savoring an exceptionally crafted latte alongside a freshly baked cardamom twist, just like Tim Mitchell suggests.

If you’re in the area, make sure to stop by this hidden gem for a delightful experience that not only nourishes your body but also connects you with the rich history and culture of the Nordic heritage. The Cafe at National Nordic Museum is more than just a place to grab a bite; it’s a celebration of flavors and a welcoming space that feels like a home away from home.

I appreciate that along with the remodel of the Nordic Museum they put importance on including a quality café to bolster the museum experience. Unfortunately, while Nordic immigrants have a deep history in Seattle, places that serve Nordic foods are few and far between. Freya is a nice addition to Nordic food in the area. They have a small selection of dishes but they are good representation of some of the foods popular in the Nordic countries. I ordered one of the Danish dogs which is their take on a Danish hot dog. I’ve been to Copenhagen and Danish hot dogs are delicious especially with the remoulade and fried onions. Freya Café’s version I believe uses PNW ingredients and combines it nicely with the Danish concept. The Uli’s sausage was tasty and the curry mayo sauce added mellow spice. The pretzel bun rounded out the flavors nicely as well. As a side note, the older gentleman who brought the food out seemed very kind and personable as well. Freya Café is definitely a place I would just visit even if I wasn't going to the museum.

One of the most unique and delicious places to grab a bite!! The Icelandic yogurt is very creamy and delicious with the berries and granolas. The danish hotdog is high quality and tender with dill infused mustard and pickles. Def worth trying the tasty Nordic foods!

Super friendly, gave great recommendations. Food is delicious! Had a Shrub (might be misspelling on my end ) and the Salmon smørrebrød. 100% recommend. Inside the National Nordic Museum, but accessible from outside.

A lovely spot to have a coffee/read or work. The service is always friendly and makes for a relaxed atmosphere. We love all the standard coffee options + drinks with a Nordic twist. I'm a big fan of the Jarlsberg cheese board too!

Really good casual Nordic cafe inside the Nordic museum. For food - Mormor's pantry smorgasbords was very good. The food is on the lighter side, so if you're hungry you might want to get two dishes. For cocktails - the Anker & Bertneas great.

Love this place, especially in the morning. Every time I come here (3) it feels like I just found it in a good way. Really good cardamom twist and other baked goods - made right there. Coffee made to hurry so relax and take it easy. This little spot is worth a visit
